WELCOME TO THE BOB DAVIDS (BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON DC) CHAPTER

The Bob Davids chapter of The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) is the Baltimore, MD & Washington DC regional group. Local members of SABR, join forces in keeping with the SABR's formal objectives. To learn more about SABR, click here.

Currently, the Bob Davids chapter has an annual meeting in the fall and a ballpark outing each Spring. All meetings are open to the public.

 

 

What is SABR?

The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) was founded in 1971 and now has nearly 7,000 members worldwide.

SABR members are educators, students, laborers, CEO's, bartenders, doctors, artists, lawyers, writers, goverment employees, engineers, accountants, retirees, statisticians, baseball executives, media and anyone who loves and is interested in the history of baseball.

Who was Bob Davids?

L. Robert "Bob" Davids was the founder and first president of SABR. He edited the SABR publications Baseball Research Journal, This Date in Baseball History, Great Hitting Pitchers, and Minor League Stars volumes I and II. He also edited Insider's Baseball (1983) and contributed articles to The Sporting News from 1951 to 1964. Mr. Davids served in the USAF from 1944-46 and was a U.S. government official from 1951 to 1981.

SABR's highest honor, the Bob Davids Award was established by the SABR Board of Directors in 1985 and is awarded each year at the annual convention.
